Patched-In With CherryRaps (Interview)

How We Found Them

In 2020, we started the first talent show on the social audio app Clubhouse, titled The Music Patch. What began as our own distraction from the global pandemic quickly became a hub for interaction between credited music industry icons, and the independent musicians who aspired to work at their level. Day after day, hundreds (and sometimes thousands) of like-minded creators would gather to exchange live performances for advice from the masters behind their favorite songs — and vice versa. These experts included legends such as Judd Mahoney, Keith Ross, Irko Sera, Kim E. Parker, and more. During these shows, we collectively met what would later become some of our favorite artists, writers, and producers from all over the world, whose songs we still stream on a consistent basis. Among these was Cherry, now CherryRaps, a masterful writer and powerful performer from Chicago, IL. We reached out to her to better understand her story, her motivations, and her next moves — here’s what she had to say.

Interview

Music Patch: So Cherry, what new projects are you currently working on?

CherryRaps: I recently released another West-Coast collaborative single with RonnieMac “Traffic” and I have an album releasing by the end of the year “TrapHer”.

Music Patch: That sounds exciting! Who are you looking forward to working with this year?

CherryRaps: Scottie Flame$, RawSmoov, and again with MamaNamedMeEvan, along with a couple others for the album. I haven’t released an entire project since “The Tip Out” so I feel I have to introduce the industry to a new sound from me. More well-rounded and versatile all around as a recording artist.

Music Patch: Do you see yourself dropping a project soon?

CherryRaps: I will be releasing 2 singles from the album before the drop! Stay tuned for titles!

Music Patch: Do you have any more shows coming up?

CherryRaps: I recently returned from New Orleans doing a show at Cafe Istanbul. Right now I’m doing a promo circuit through Vegas and LA. I’m continuing to honor free shows throughout the end of the year. I want to give my fans something to look forward to while building a bigger base. I feel it’s no better way to get to the people.

Music Patch: So your fans will get to see you sooner rather than later! Do you see yourself doing festivals in the future?

CherryRaps: Yes, I feel like the circuit I’m in now is preparing me for it. I’m building stage shows with dancers and graphics. Next year we’ll have the industry in a headlock!

Music Patch: Out of the songs you’ve dropped so far, which one is your favorite and why?

CherryRaps: Although Traffic has the most traction, my favorite is “U Nasty”. But unreleased, wait until you all get to hear the “Blessed Freestyle”. Last year “Get the Bag” was my favorite with the cadence but we live and learn - I definitely rushed the release.

Music Patch: Get The Bag was still a great song! We loved the production on that one! If you could work with one producer, who would it be?

CherryRaps: DJ Chose or Beatking. Club God or Club Devil definitely for a single. For an album or mixtape, HitKidd or Big Juice, Aubrey Delaine.

Music Patch: Those are some solid names! If you could have one feature with an artist, who would it be?

CherryRaps: Latto, Dream Doll, Kash, Glorilla. I know our gritty, sexy flow compliment each other. A project would be fire!

Music Patch: That would definitely be a fire collaboration! Well, we see you going big places Cherry! Thanks so much for sitting down to chat with us!

CherryRaps: No problem!

We got the ears of the bunny out of the hat, but not the entire bunny! Sounds like she’s got some things cooking up and we can’t wait to find out and let you know!

Thanks again to CherryRaps for the interview, we’ll see you next time with more from The Music Patch.
